Business Counseling and Technical Assistance

Small Business & Technology Development Center (SBTDC)  Counseling to both established and new businesses, including business plan development, financial management, marketing, international trade, franchising, licensing, inventory, training, and information and technology resources

SCORE (Service Corps of Retired Executives)   Counseling for entrepreneur education and formation, growth and success of small businesses. SCORE is a partner with the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA).

Missouri Enterprise Business Assistance Center   Access to extensive expertise, hands-on assistance and a wealth of resources to help with business strategies and management, quality management systems, manufacturing improvements, strategic marketing, human resources, and product development.

FastTrac Practical, hands-on business development program designed to help entrepreneurs hone the skills needed to create, manage, and grow a successful business.

Kauffman Coaches Program, a training component of the Urban Entrepreneurship Partnership (UEP)   Identify and solve business problems in order to successfully grow companies, focused on examining business performance, identifying positive and negative drivers of profitability, deriving key initiatives to improve business performance, establishing goals and metrics to plan and monitor results, and identifying funding options and possible sources of capital.

Legal Assistance

Entrepreneurial Legal Services Clinic   Deliver legal advice and facilitate the delivery of professional business planning to owners of small businesses, both existing and start-ups, who cannot afford the market rates for such services. Faculty of the UMKC School of Law supervise law students as they provide legal and professional services to qualified clients.

MBE/WBE Assistance

Missouri Procurement Technical Assistance Centers  Assists businesses, including small, disadvantaged and women owned firms, in obtaining federal, state and local government contracts. Procurement specialists help in identifying opportunities and understanding the government contracting process so business can take advantage of government sales dollars.

MidAmerica Minority Business Development Council  Enhances the growth and development of minority owned business enterprises (MBEs) through participation in private and public sector procurement programs.

Governmental

KCMO Business Assistance Center  Provides input about the City's requirements in advance of formal submittal to the review process. Tracks specific requirements which apply to project. Design professionals use a checklist to anticipate and track components of the development process which impact the securing of building and public improvement permits. The checklist also contains date fields to calculate the necessary dates needed to accomplish construction and occupancy deadlines. The checklist is a guide which provides basic development information. It is hoped that the questions and answers derived from the use of the checklist will assist in the development and tracking of the project through the city's development process.

Working Solutions   Helps organizations retain talented employees and sustain productive workforces through training and coaching, leadership development, human resource consultation. Services help reduce turnover, promote career advancement and improve leadership effectiveness.

Full Employment Council (FEC): is a business-led, private, nonprofit corporation whose mission is to obtain public and private sector employment for the unemployed and underemployed residents of the Greater Kansas City area. FEC accomplishes this goal by working in collaboration with business, local units of government, educational institutions, labor and community-based organizations. This partnership responds to employer needs while reducing unemployment, underemployment and the public dependency of area residents.
